What Is Your Dream Job?

Rambling Web has moved. Read entire Dream Job article.

Excerpt:

"I was recently laid off from a small company where I served as the Web Developer / Web Designer of several websites. While this is my chosen field, I definitely did not grow up thinking 'I want to be a web master when I grow up,' and certainly didn't grow up thinking, 'I want to be a web mistress when I grow up.' Not only was there no internet to speak of at the time, the absurdity of the job titles would have DQ'd them instantly.

So as I work to get my own sites and resume together, I have been thinking: What would truly be my 'dream job.' First up, 'Furniture Maker & Service Dog Trainer.' This job combination truly fits the 'dream' category, as any realistic look at this as an option knocks it right off the potential job list. First and foremost, I have no furniture making skills. Am handy enough that if someone was in desperate need of a table, I could probably put one together. However, I'm not interested in being a lousy furniture maker. Second, I don't have the appropriate set up for even owning a dog let alone training a service dog. This doesn't get crossed off my 'maybe some day' list, but it certainly doesn't cut it as either a source of income or a practical short term objective..."

PEM - Peobody Essex Musem Exhibits Good for Children

Rambling Web Has Moved read full article at A Good Week for Kids to Attend the Peobody Essex Museum...

"The Peobody Essex Museum in Salem, Mass. is currently featuring three exhibits that are well suited for children. The 'California Design 1930-1965 Living in a Modern Way' is good for adults and children. It's fun, colorful, and interesting; an entertaining history lesson on the rapid development of California based off its unique style . It is also an excellent introduction to industrial design. The exhibit runs through July.

Mom and I, Looking for the Hookers in the Windows

Rambling Web has moved... Here's a clip from today's post: Looking for Hookers with My Mother... In Amsterdam

"...One night at dinner my mother, my aunt, my aunt’s friend and I were talking about tomorrow’s activities in Amsterdam. My aunt and mother were discussing how they heard that the prostitutes in Amsterdam stood in glass storefronts. The three of them, I thought, were joking when they decided it would be fun to find these ‘hookers in the windows.’ My mother scheduling this activity would not have been too shocking, but it was unexpected from my aunt and her friend as I thought it was a well known fact that hookers are rarely kept in the nice part of town.

Anyway, that afternoon after seeing the sights, my mother, aunt, her friend, and I went out looking for hookers. The belief was that hookers wouldn’t go on duty until the afternoon, so as it got dark we started trying to find the red light district. As it became clear that they were not joking, I started to protest.

“Is this really a good idea?” … “I doubt the hookers live in the nice part of town.” … “Seriously, are we really looking for the hookers in the windows?...”

Quotes from Leonardo da Vinci

Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else.

A well-spent day brings happy sleep.

The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.

The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.

There are three classes of people: those who see, those who see when they are shown, those who do not see.

Why does the eye see a thing more clearly in dreams than the imagination when awake?

Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art.

Water is the driving force of all nature.

Where there is shouting, there is no true knowledge.

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Learning never exhausts the mind.

He who wishes to be rich in a day will be hanged in a year.

The smallest feline is a masterpiece.

Human subtlety will never devise an invention more beautiful, more simple or more direct than does nature because in her inventions nothing is lacking, and nothing is superfluous.

Quotes from Plato

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.

Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.

There are two things a person should never be angry at, what they can help, and what they cannot.

Good actions give strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others.

One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.

He was a wise man who invented beer.

Ignorance, the root and stem of all evil.

The greatest wealth is to live content with little.

He who commits injustice is ever made more wretched than he who suffers it.

All men are by nature equal, made all of the same earth by one Workman; and however we deceive ourselves, as dear unto God is the poor peasant as the mighty prince.

Necessity... the mother of invention.

Quotes from Socrates

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

False words are not only evil in themselves, but they infect the soul with evil.

Let him that would move the world first move himself.

Beware the barrenness of a busy life.

My advice to you is get married: if you find a good wife you'll be happy; if not, you'll become a philosopher.

Wisdom begins in wonder.

He is a man of courage who does not run away, but remains at his post and fights against the enemy.

It is not living that matters, but living rightly.

I was really too honest a man to be a politician and live.

The unexamined life is not worth living.

If a man is proud of his wealth, he should not be praised until it is known how he employs it.

One who is injured ought not to return the injury, for on no account can it be right to do an injustice; and it is not right to return an injury, or to do evil to any man, however much we have suffered from him.

Quotes from Aristotle

The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.

You will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor.

Quality is not an act, it is a habit.

A true friend is one soul in two bodies.

The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal.

The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.

Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not easy.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

There is no great genius without a mixture of madness.

What it lies in our power to do, it lies in our power not to do.

The law is reason, free from passion.

The ideal man bears the accidents of life with dignity and grace, making the best of circumstances.

Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees the others.
